Why I don’t follow interior design trends in my work

I do not create homes based on interior design trends.

Because I honestly don't see their point. Sure, you could say that trends can offer inspiration, but all I see is a way for capitalism to continue consumerism through:

  • Guilt people into buying things they don’t really need, in order to be accepted by others/society;

  • Activating a fear of missing out (everyone will judge you or laugh at you for missing out), which is not okay, and;

  • Keeping you in a box (God forbid you like other things or want to do things differently).

Not to mention the damage trends are doing to the environment. How can they possibly do that?

By creating a surge in demand for products that people don’t really need. Trends encourage people to change their homes every year to stay "trendy/up to date/in fashion".

All of this creates so much pollution, not only in the process of creating these products but also in their waste, because you can bet that these companies that rely on trendy products don’t care about their products’ end-of-life cycle.

These companies will often try to make their products from cheaper materials in order to sell more. These cheaper materials aren’t better for the planet (I am sure they’re actually having the opposite effect), all to pocket bigger profits.

And when those items break down on you (because hey, a £50 - £75 chair made out of chipboard instead of real wood can’t possibly last long), you have to throw them out, looking to buy something new! And what happens to the old, broken items?

Most likely, they end up in the land field, just la all the clothes that are literally creating mountains of waste and harming people’s livelihood.

See the problem?

I'd rather create unique interiors based on your personality.

I’d rather do that than fit in a box, or create yet another copy of what’s a“trendy interior” at the moment.

I’d rather take the time to create lasting, quality interiors that will make your heart sing for years to come. Interiors that bring you peace, make you feel safe and comfortable and allow you to thrive.

I’d take quality over quantity anytime, even if it takes twice as long and as expensive to create something of value.

Wouldn't you?
