Why interior design is so important in our daily lives
Here is a question for you: have you ever felt triggered seeing a friend’s beautiful home (live or on social media) and then you got sad that your home isn’t anything like that? I am going to be honest with you - I did! And I am an interior designer. 🙈 First of all, please know that this is perfectly normal, we are only humans. Second, I am currently renting a lovely flat, with “beautiful” magnolia-painted walls that make me cringe every time I see them. I know what you are going to say. “Well, can’t you just repaint them?” Yes, yes I could, but here is my predicament:
I have a husband who does not want to invest a single penny in this flat (instead save for our one-day home - which is fair enough);
The renting contract for this place is made in such a way that if we want to make the tiniest change, we need the landlord’s permission (even a nail on the wall). This feels like asking for permission to be yourself (because yes, your home is 100% an extension of yourself & your personality).
So you see, I can definitely relate to that frustration of wanting to live in a gorgeous space, in a home that represents who you are (not the landlord’s love for the 80s “must-have colour” trend that was at the time). I completely get that feeling of being frustrated, disappointed, stuck, and annoyed in a home you don’t love, draining your energy instead of bringing it up.
Because here is the thing. Not waking up in a space that you simply adore, adds stress to your life, on a subconscious level. It might not feel like it but interior design influences how your day actually goes.
You won’t necessarily be aware of it, but deep down, it can affect your well-being, making you feel off, getting frustrated or annoyed quicker and honestly sucking the joy out of the things you enjoy most, like having a cup of coffee in the morning (speaking from experience here 😁).
Not being able to be fully present, enjoying your home & your day, being in your head too much & living in the future thinking, “one day I’ll change that/fix that”, it’s just causing more stress, and costing you peace of mind and energy.
And then you try to escape by deep diving into the IG, Pinterest rabbit hole, or just looking at friends' photos of their amazing homes and getting annoyed that your home is not where you want it to be? Are you seeing the loop yet?
So then my friend, what can you do to break this cycle?
It’s quite simple really. Ask for help. You don’t have to keep feeling overwhelmed & stressed out about all the things that need to be done. It’s why we interior designers exist (because we thrive on fixing problems and creating beautiful homes).
Also, you don’t have to do everything in one go or on your own (contrary to popular belief). I know that redesigning your home, and interior design in general, can be *cough* quite expensive and difficult, but there is no one rule that fits all, especially no rule that says you have to do everything at once.
So start small! Gather inspiration, and start by daring to put that beautiful dream of yours to paper and ask for help. You don’t have to go at it alone, it’s why I am here, to offer a helping hand and make the whole process less stressful & overwhelming for you.
I know there are many people out there who like the challenge of redecorating/designing their homes by themselves, and that is great. Kudos to them, because it’s not an easy job. But just because most people do it, it doesn’t mean you have to do it too. If you are not into that sort of thing, don’t do it. It’s ok to work with an interior designer. It’s what we love doing. And I promise you, we don’t bite.
I can be involved as much or as little as you like, from the get-go, or come in at whatever stage you are at. This can be: creating mood boards, creating the floor plan, the design concept/idea, searching for furniture that brings the design vision to life, styling, etc.
I work with your needs & wishes in mind (and budget - but that is a topic for another time). Did I mention that we get to have fun creating a beautiful home in the process? A home that you’ll love waking up in every day?
So if you are also a lover of all things Scandinavian, Japandi mixed with a little bit of Modern & Mid-Century style, with a dash of colour, then I am your interior designer. If you are thinking ok, that is all well and good but what are these design styles, just come and have a look at my projects, a sneak peek on Pinterest or on my IG. You will get all the inspiration that you will need.
And if you are ready to stop feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and annoyed about your home, and instead are ready to feel focused, clear, and excited, ready to fall in love with your home again, please do get in touch.
I would genuinely love to help. Xx
